Some of the contestants in Bulgaria's elections for National Assembly made first comments after the end of the election day on Sunday evening.

GERB-UDF

GERB leader Boyko Borissov underlined the victory of GERB-UDF in Sunday's elections, describing it as "categorical". According to the exit polls, the coalition's first place is uncontested. "From today onwards - we are committed to form a government. With such a victory, we can accept to compromise, but we will not bypass the people's vote. Our agenda will be fundamental for a future government," Borissov said.

Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria

CC-DB Co-chair Assen Vassilev thanked all who voted for the coalition, especially the voters in the Haskovo and Plovdiv multi-member constituencies, where he was the formation’s top-of-the-list candidate. Vassilev recalled that CC-DB’s priorities for Bulgaria’s future development lie with higher incomes, better healthcare and education, and improving the anti-corruption legislation. These are CC-DB's key points for starting negotiations with the rest of the political forces on forming a regular government.

CC-DB Co-chair Atanas Atanasov noted that Bulgaria observed higher voter turnout at the October 27 elections and thanked all the people who voted. The coalition will stick to its plan, he added.

Former CC-DB PM Nikolay Denkov said that now GERB-UDF must take responsibility for forming Bulgaria’s next regular government, as they seem to have won the elections. According to him, so far GERB-UDF have never stepped up towards such actions. Denkov also thanked all the people who went out and cast their votes.

Vazrazhdane

In a short Facebook post following the end of the election day on Sunday, the Vazrazhdane political party thanked all the citizens who voted for them. Vazrazhdane said its representatives are expecting to learn the final results of the elections.

Movement for Rights and Freedoms - New Beginning

Movement for Rights and Freedoms – New Beginning (MRF – New Beginning) Chair Delyan Peevski congratulated his coalition’s structures, MP candidates, activists and supporters for the elections results they achieved. In a press release, Peevski thanked the voters for their great trust in MRF-New Beginning. His statement further reads that he is aware of the huge responsibility he must take, both personally and at a party level, and he will live up to the expectations.

There Is Such a People

There is Such a People (TISP) Deputy Chair Toshko Yordanov described TISP results in the first exit polls as “stable”. He pointed out that the voter turnout was higher compared to the last parliamentary elections on June 9 and argued that the support for his party was higher on Sunday. Yordanov stressed that TISP will not cooperate with Delyan Peevski’s MRF – New Beginning. He refused to answer further questions about which parties and coalitions his party would work with.

The party’s top-of-the-list candidate in Plovdiv Stanislav Balabanov said: “It is too early to comment on any roles [in future parliament] and governance. We will wait to see the final results”.
