site.btaInterior Ministry Receives 849 Reports of Election Violations
So far, the Interior Ministry received a total of 849 reports of election violations. For comparison, during the same period of the previous elections, there were 509 reports, caretaker Interior Minister Atanas Ilkov said at a briefing.
A total of 124 pre-trial proceedings were established, which is 25% more compared to the previous elections. Some 81 people were detained, while in the last election there were 66. A total of 1,789 warning protocols were issued, compared to 1,307 for the previous year.
So far, 227 special operations have been conducted on crimes against the political rights of citizens. In the previous elections those were 167, an increase of 35.9%.
With regard to lists sent to the Interior Ministry with names of people allegedly involved in committing electoral violations, Minister Atanas Ilkov reported that 203 people out of a total of 245 have been questioned.
"Our activity led to these results, the Ministry of the Interior was not a bystander, we were proactive," commented Minister Ilkov in connection with the results of the police's work. He noted that the election day started normally, without problems, and added that until now, every citizen has been provided with the opportunity to cast their vote.
More than 15,000 employees of the Ministry of the Interior were involved in the security of the electoral sections in Bulgaria.
