After voting in the early parliamentary elections on October 27, Vice President Iliana Iotova expressed hope that after the elections there will be a strong political government. Whether it will be made up of several formations will be decided by the political forces that will be part of the National Assembly, she added.
Iotova said that there is a chance of forming a regular government, with some negotiations, a clear programme and above all strong leaders. "When a society needs to come out of a crisis, it needs strong leaders, not people who are yet unknown," she commented regarding the proposed idea for a prime minister equidistant from all parties, adding that no one has said exactly what this formula would look like. She argued that to her this looks more like a way for politicians to deceive citizens as to why they do not want to enter into a real coalition and govern.
Iotova chose to vote by machine. She noted that a lot of mistrust in machine voting was used in the political campaign, and said that with her vote she is expressing her trust.
The Vice President was less than optimistic about the chances of discovering who all those arrested for buying votes were buying for. She noted that all the police operations leading up to the elections were more attention-grabbing than productive.
