Blue Bulgaria top-of-the-list candidate in Haskovo Tsveta Kirilova on Thursday stressed that the current model of funding large infrastructure projects through taxes must be ended.

"This policy must be replaced by a model for the construction of large infrastructure projects with private capital on a concession basis, which will eliminate the main source of major political corruption", she pointed out.

Kirilova noted that the construction of modern infrastructure by private investors would mean the attraction of many billions of euros of foreign capital in the Bulgarian economy. "With the continued spending of billions of state money on highways, in the end we will have neither money nor highways", she said.

She stressed that concessionary investment in public infrastructure will allow modern infrastructure to be build in Bulgaria, and added that the country does not have the financial resources to start the construction of all highways, high-speed railway lines, tunnels and bridges, nor for the modernization of ports and airports. "But there are big international investors for all these projects", Kirilova noted.
