The main priorities for Sliven should be improving the infrastructure, ensuring water supply and providing access to cultural events, said CC-DB MP candidates in Sliven Hristo Stoyanov and Elena Petkova on Tuesday.
Petkova, a municipal councilor from CC-DB, proposed the opening of a drinking water treatment plant in Sliven as an emergency measure. "The infrastructure is also in poor condition. Sidewalks and streets in the city, especially on the outskirts, are compromised and maintenance is almost non-existent", she stressed. She emphasised that clear plan is needed for a fair distribution of the BGN 75 million municipal budget. Petkova also pointed out that the problems in the villages are even more acute, as the lack of medical services and bad roads create difficulties for the residents.
Stoyanov, also a municipal councilor from the coalition, noted that it is important to subsidize cultural events for young people. "This is an incentive to stay and develop in Sliven", he said, adding that in order for the region to cope with population outflow and to retain young people, change is needed.
