A National Inter-agency Taskforce (NIT) was set up on Wednesday to coordinate the work of the prosecution service, the Interior Ministry and the State Agency for National Security (SANS) in connection with the snap parliamentary elections on October 27. The founding order was signed by acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov, caretaker Interior Minister Atanas Ilkov, and SANS Chair Plamen Tonchev, the prosecution service reported.
The order regulates the actions of the three institutions to protect the political rights of the people and ensure prompt and adequate reactions against electoral offences.
NIT is headed by Deputy Prosecutor General Elena Karakasheva and comprises members of the Supreme Prosecution Office of Cassation and representatives of the Interior Ministry's and SANS' leadership.
NIT will perform its coordinating function throughout the election campaign, on polling day and up to 30 days after the Central Election Commission (CEC) announces the final results of the elections. It will share information with CEC and the regional inter-agency taskforces, and will collate and analyze the data it receives.
A similar taskforce was established for the snap general elections and European Parliament elections on June 9, as well as for the local elections in the autumn of 2023.
