The snap general and European Parliament (EP) elections on June 9 passed calmly and normally, Central Election Commission (CEC) Spokesperson Rositsa Mateva told a news briefing on Monday. The deadlines for processing the ballot papers and announcing the results will be met, she added.

A total of 148 voting machines stopped working during the elections. Of these, 134 were in the country, the remaining 14 were abroad. These 134 machines include the one that stopped working on June 8, one with a mismatch of the seal on the transportation case and four misplaced machines, two in Stara Zagora and two in Sofia Region. The CEC processed 106 complaints and appeals on election day, mostly concerning voting machines.

The voter turnout as of 8 pm will be announced after all the protocols of the section election commissions (SECs) in regional election commissions (RECs) will be processed. As of 2 pm on Monday, 86.14% of the ballot papers of the SECs in the RECs and all the SECs from abroad have been processed, Mateva said. “We believe that the CECs and RECs will meet the legal deadlines and there is no need to create unnecessary tension for people”, she added.

CEC has to announce the results of the EP vote and the distribution of seats by June 12. The result and the distribution of seats in the National Assembly elections will be announced on June 13. The names of the 17 representatives of Bulgaria in the EP and of the MPs in the 50th National Assembly will be announced on June 14 and 16, respectively.
