VMRO will run independently for the European and national elections, said the party's leader, Krasimir Karakachanov, at a press conference at BTA’s National Press Club in Varna on Friday. He added that the regional structures of the party should present their nominations by the end of this month.

Karakachanov pointed out that the leader of the list for the European elections will most likely be current MEP Angel Dzhambazki. MEP Andrey Slabakov will also be included. According to Karakachanov, it is very likely that Slabakov will also be the leader of VMRO’s Varna list for the parliamentary vote.

The VMRO leader argued that a large part of Bulgarian society is currently not represented by the parties in Parliament.

He described the current situation in the country as "tragic and ridiculous". In his words, the assemblage [a term used to describe the former regular government's ruling majority that often carries a negative connotation] has fallen into its own trap because of the hasty and ill-considered constitutional amendments. The real aim was to limit the powers of the President in regards to the formation of caretaker governments, Karakachanov added. According to him, caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev has fallen victim to the ambitions of GERB and Movement for Rights and Freedoms and this will lead to the elections not being fair.
