Air Strike on Odesa Region Leaves Woman Killed, Three Injured, Damaged Civilian Infrastructure, Authorities Say

One woman was killed, three people were injured, and damage was caused to civilian infrastructure after a Russian air attack in the Odesa region on the night of September 23, regional authorities reported on Tuesday.

“Unfortunately, a woman has died, there are injured, and damage has been caused to civilian infrastructure in the Odesa region as a result of the night-time missile attack,” the Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kiper, reported the news on Telegram.

Russian ballistic missiles attacked the civilian infrastructure in the city of Tatarbunary, Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi District, Kipper added.

Nine residential buildings and an educational institution were damaged in the Kyivskyi District of Odesa, Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov said.

Fires were reported in the central part of the city, with damage to a hotel, Ukrposhta, Ukrtelecom, a cultural centre, an administrative services centre, as well as damage to commercial pavilions and cars, according to the mayor.

Bulgarians in the Odesa region number more than 150,000 and were the third largest population group in Ukraine in 2001, according to the official census. About 50,000 - 60,000 Bulgarians live in the city of Odesa itself. The largest compact Bulgarian population is concentrated in the Bolhrad, Izmail and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi districts.
