Brussels Airport said it was hit by a cyberattack on Friday evening, which disabled its passenger and baggage check-in systems. The statement noted that other European airports have also been affected.

Passenger processing will be carried out manually on Saturday, which will lead to delays and flight cancellations, the airport said. Travellers were advised to go to the airport only if they have received confirmation from their airline that their flight will operate.

According to local media, no solution is expected in the coming hours. So far, nine flights have been cancelled and 15 have departed with delays. The airport said the cyberattack targeted systems of a service provider and that an in-depth investigation is under way to assess the damage.
