site.btaBulgarian Navy Destroys Unmanned Surface Vessel in Black Sea

The Bulgarian Navy successfully completed a mission to identify and destroy an unmanned surface vessel in the Black Sea, the Ministry of Defence said on Tuesday. The operation was carried out east of Varna, with naval teams securing maritime safety throughout the mission.

On September 15, the Bulgarian Navy, working alongside allied forces and assets, detected a damaged surface drone about 80 km east of Varna in Black Sea waters. A reconnaissance operation was conducted on the object, which was subsequently destroyed on September 16, with no secondary explosion observed.

During the operation, a helicopter, a cutter and a ship from the Bulgarian Navy took part, and all measures were taken to ensure the safety of navigation in the area.

Navy assets participated in the mission after receiving authorization from the Chief of Defence to conduct reconnaissance, destruction and ensure maritime safety.
