Bulgaria’s Aleksandar Nikolov was named No. 1 attacker and No. 2 scorer after the group phase of the FIVB Men's Volleyball World Championship in the Philippines, according to the rankings posted on VolleyballWorld.com.
In a total of three matches in the group phase, the 22-year-old lead player of the Bulgarian national team scored 71 points, including 63 in attack. In the scorers’ ranking, he is second only to Ferre Reggers of Belgium, who scored 73 points.
Aleksandar’s younger brother Simeon Nikolov shares fifth place in the servers’ ranking of the first phase of the championship.
Bulgaria finished at the top in Group E. In the Final 16, the Bulgarians, led by their Italian coach Gianlorenzo Blengini, will face Portugal on Monday, September 22.
