Foreign Ministry: Ukraine Needs Reliable, Stable Security Guarantees as Condition for Lasting Peace

Ukraine must be given reliable and stable security guarantees as an indispensable condition for sustainable peace, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its website.

The Ukrainian people must be given the opportunity to rebuild a strong, resilient and democratic state, the Ministry added.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Russia to fully engage in diplomatic efforts to end this war and lay the foundations for a lasting and just peace, in accordance with the UN Charter and the principles of international law.

There can be no negotiations on Ukraine without Ukraine and the European Union, the Ministry of noted. Bulgaria reiterates its unwavering support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders. As a member of the European Union and a NATO ally, Bulgaria reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ukraine.

The Ukrainian people have endured more than a thousand days of suffering and destruction, defending themselves from Russian aggression. The scale of the destruction caused by Russia is enormous and unacceptable in the 21st century. In flagrant violation of key principles of international law, Russia has resorted to deliberate military action against critical civilian infrastructure in Ukraine, such as nuclear power plants and dams, completely disregarding the potential severe consequences for the environment and the civilian population far beyond the front lines, our Foreign Ministry said.

The statement went on to stress that tens of thousands of civilians, including children, have been killed or injured, millions have been forced to flee their homes. 

On the third anniversary of the Russian invasion, European Union leaders arrived in Kyiv to express their support for Ukraine.
