site.btaUPDATED MEP Valchev: Unlike Other Candidates for EU Commissioners, Bulgaria's Zaharieva Did Not Hide Behind Generic Phrases, Vague Answers
In an interview for BTA's Ivo Tassev, Bulgarian MEP Ivaylo Valchev (TISP/ECR) commented on Tuesday's confirmation hearing of Bulgaria’s candidate for European Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation, Ekaterina Zaharieva. In his words, the hearing went well and unlike other candidates, Zaharieva chose not to hide behind generic phrases and vague answers.
The Culture and Education Committee of the European Parliament (EP), which was invited to attend Tuesday's hearing, approved her nomination and so did the main hearing committee - that of Industry, Research and Energy, Valchev explained. He attended the Coordinators' Meeting of the invited committee.
The Coordinators' Meeting of the Committee on Culture and Education approved her nomination with a majority, Valchev said.
"Zaharieva showed she is prepared, she did not assume the pose, 'Look how much I have studied', she replied to the questions asked. Therefore, there surely is no resistance to what she showed and to her personal qualities," Valchev argued.
Commenting on Zaharieva's intention for an increase to 3% of investment in research and innovation, Valchev told BTA that Zaharieva should work in close cooperation with other Commissioners and act in the name of culture, so that artists can get the right to freedom, without limitations over ideological correctness.
