The change of Argentina's foreign policy course after the country's presidential elections was among the highlights of a round table entitled Strengthening Cooperation and Relations of Friendship between Bulgaria and Argentina in the Context of the Current Geostrategic Situation, which was held at the residence of the Argentine ambassador in Bulgaria here on Tuesday.

Argentina's Ambassador to Bulgaria Alejandro Zothner Meyer stressed the importance of cooperation with foreign countries.

Regarding the country's policy, he noted that Argentina is striving to be a global partner of NATO, as well as to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. The country has chosen not to join BRICS while also providing aid to Ukraine and Israel.

The President of the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria, Solomon Passy, said that Bulgaria and Argentina share a long history of cooperation. He also noted the bilateral partnership regarding the countries' missions in Antarctica.

According to the round table moderator, Rear Admiral Marcelo Tarapov, the relations between Argentina and Bulgaria through the Navy are a way to exchange experience in terms of training military personnel and therefore a step forward towards NATO. "After many years of economic weakness, you can imagine that our navy is not in good shape, nor is the training. We need to renew the way we train our people," he said.
