Bulgarian Commissioner-designate Ekaterina Zaharieva will be heard by the European Parliament's Committee on Industry, Research and Energy on November 5, according to the timetable for hearings of the candidates for EU commissioners, published on Thursday by the EP.
Each hearing lasts three hours. The initial approval of the candidates will be by a majority vote in the confirmation committees, and in case the candidate does not reach majority, MEPs have the right to ask additional written questions and schedule a second hearing of an hour and a half.
Zaharieva was nominated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as Commissioner for Start-ups, Science and Innovation. The hearings of the remaining commissioner-designates will take place between November 4 and 12. The EP is scheduled to vote on the composition of the new Commission at its session between November 25 and 28.
