The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry greeted Slovakia on its national day on Sunday. "Warmest greetings, Slovakia, on your national holiday," the ministry wrote on the social network X.

"We look forward to further expanding cooperation between Bulgaria and Slovakia," the message said.

September 1 is Constitution Day in Slovakia, commemorating the adoption of the country's Constitution in 1992. The Slovak Constitution is a direct consequence of the events of the Velvet Revolution, a peaceful and non-violent transition of power that paved the way for the establishment of Slovakia after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia on December 31, 1992.

Bulgaria recognized the independence of Slovakia on December 23, 1992. The two countries re-established diplomatic relations on January 1, 1993, after originally establishing them back in 1920.
