site.btaUPDATED Nearly 8,000 Runners from 66 Countries, including BTA Staffers, Take Part in 42nd Wizz Air Sofia Marathon

Nearly 8,000 people from 66 countries, including BTA staffers, took part in the 42nd Sofia Wizz Air Marathon. The race started and finished in front of the National Art Gallery and was held in three competitive disciplines: 10 km, 21 km, and 42 km.
The runners passed by iconic landmarks of the capital in downtown Sofia.
This year, BTA was represented by its own team in the iconic race, joining the cause of separate waste collection. Participating were Nikolay Trifonov, senior reporter at the Home News Department, Magdalena Dimitrova, editor in the Balkan News Department, and Kristian Stratiev, junior editor in the same department. Martin Andreev, a friend of the team, also took part in the marathon. "We need to and should challenge ourselves more often, so I urge everyone to join the marathon next year," Trifonov commented.
On July 25, BTA launched a campaign to collect plastic bottles and cans used by employees. After that date, they are handed over to stores that have recycling machines. The proceeds are donated to a good cause. Since the start of the campaign, BTA staffers have returned 2,217 bottles and cans, donating funds a total of BGN 111.80.
The organizers of the 42nd Wizz Air Sofia Marathon announced on Facebook that they would use 72 kg less plastic at this year's sporting event. Paper cups were used for water at the refreshment stations. The organizers called on participants and their supporters to use public transport to get to the start line, to limit the use of single-use plastics, and to dispose of waste in separate collection containers.
