The Bulgarica Cultural Centre in Chicago has nominated Emilia Ivanova for the Saint Zlata of Meglen Award, the Executive Agency for Bulgarians Abroad (EABA) said here on Monday.

“Emilia Ivanova is a co-founder of the Bulgarian Association in Chicago and has been uniting the Bulgarian community overseas for many years through cultural events, charitable initiatives and cooperation with numerous organizations in Bulgaria. Thanks to her work and dedication, over 100 settlements in Bulgaria have received assistance in the form of donations, support for children and people in need, educational projects and cultural exchange”, the EABA emphasized.

As part of the Bulgarica Cultural Centre, Ivanova works to preserve Bulgarian traditions, language and spirit, the EABA added.

On October 15, the EABA will present its annual Bulgarian Woman of the Year – Saint Zlata of Meglen Award. Twenty nominations have been received from 11 countries. BTA will present the nominees in a series of articles.
