Youth and Sports Minister Ivan Peshev Tuesday presented an honorary plaque and a cash prize of BGN 115,000 to world weightlifting champion Karlos Nasar, the Ministry said. At the IWF World Championships in Fjorde, Norway, the Bulgarian athlete won the 94kg combined event title. He set a new world record in the clean and jerk with a lift of 222 kg, and his total score of 395 kg secured him the gold medal in the combined event.

"With your incredible talent, strong sporting spirit and perseverance, you have proved that Bulgarian weightlifting is among the strongest in the world," Peshev said.

He also congratulated Nasar's team, awarding honorary plaques to coaches Pavel Hristov, Milko Georgiev, and massage therapist Atanas Litkov. The coaching staff will receive a cash prize of BGN 66,000.

"During my tenure as Minister of Youth and Sports, I will keep working for Bulgarian athletes and young talents to make Bulgaria proud on the international stage," Peshev added.

Also present at the award ceremony was Bulgarian Sports Totalizator CEO Lyubomir Petrov, who said that, as the official promotional ambassador of the totalizator, Nasar has a contract worth BGN 150,000.

Earlier this year, Nasar was awarded a cash prize of BGN 60,000 by the Youth and Sports Ministry for his three gold medals at the European Championships in Chisinau, Moldova.
