The resort of Bansko is officially launching its winter season on Saturday. A special guest on the occasion is Austrian alpine skiing legend Michael Walchhofer, who in his career has won a world title in downhill, four medals from world championships and a silver medal from the Olympic Games and has 49 podiums in World Cup starts. His rival in the first downhill run in the game "Enter the champion's team" will be the honorary Bansko resident and five-time winner of the Grand Crystal Globe Marc Girardelli, according to the company Ulen, the concessionaire of the ski facilities.

The festivities will start early, the day will be filled with games and fun events for all ages. The official opening of the ski season is scheduled for 6 pm with Walchhofer and Girardelli, to be followed by a folklore performance.

The ski season in Pamporovo was opened on December 7 and in Borovets this event is planned for December 21.
