site.bta67 Competitors Take Part in 31st International Rapid Chess Tournament in Razgrad
A total of 67 competitors from the country and abroad take part in the 31st edition of the Abritus Cup International Chess Tournament in Razgrad. More than 20 chess clubs from all over Bulgaria participate in the competition. There are participants from Ukraine and France. Two grandmasters have also taken part in the competition, and the club in Razgrad is represented by 12 chess players, said chief arbiter Nikolay Todorov.
The chess competition, which has been organized by the club of the same name since 1994, supported by the Municipality of Razgrad. Among the sponsors are Antibiotic - Razgrad AD and Remko Ltd., which have supported the development of chess in the municipality for many years.
According to the regulations seven rounds will be played on Saturday and Sunday according to the Swiss system, with a time control of 15 minutes plus an additional 10 seconds for each player to complete the game. The prize fund is over BGN 4,000, there are eight main prizes and there will be special prizes in different categories. The winner will also receive the Abritus Cup.
Deputy Mayor Zornitsa Evgenieva made the symbolic opening move on the first board of the tournament. "I am honoured to be here among you, on behalf of the Mayor of Razgrad I wish success to the best. I am convinced that there are many of them here among you. This is a wonderful sport and I hope that more and more people get involved and that there is more initiative," Evgenieva said in her address.
Rosen Rusev, vice-president of the Abritus chess club, welcomed the participants and wished them success. He thanked the Municipality of Razgrad for the continuous support over the years.
The closing ceremony and the awarding of the winners will take place on Sunday.
