Nurgyul Salimova Finishes Eighth at Shymkent FIDE Women's Grand Prix

Nurgyul Salimova finished eighth at the Shymkent FIDE Women's Grand Prix. In the ninth and final round, the Bulgarian drew with Russian Alexandra Goryachkina with the white pieces.

With the added half point, Salimova collected a total of 3.5 points. She finished the tournament with one win, five draws and three defeats.

The champion was Goryachkina, who collected 7 points and was the only one who did not concede a single loss during the nine rounds of competition. China's Tang Zhonyi finished second with 6.5 points, while the third position was contested by the representative of the hosts from Kazakhstan, Bibisara Assaubayeva. She finished with 5 points.

For her eighth place in Shymkent, Nurgyul Salimova wins EUR 4,500 out of a total prize fund of EUR 80,000. The winner of the tournament, Goryachkina, is set to receive EUR 18,000.

The next third tournament of six on the Grand Prix series will be held in Monaco between February 17 and 28, 2025. Each of the 20 female chess players in the series must participate in three of these tournaments.
