The European Shooting Confederation has selected Bulgaria to host the European Junior Shooting Championships 2026 for under-21s, under 18s and under-16s, said the press office of Bulgarian Shooting Federation President Vesela Letcheva on Friday.
Over 700 athletes, coaches and officials will take part in the competition in Burgas. The European Shooting Confederation has selected Yerevan to host the European Shooting Championships for seniors.
"Bulgaria hosting the championships will allow young competitors to build confidence and motivation. Bulgaria had applied to host the entire championships but since the Bulgarian Shooting Federation hasn't organized important international competitions in many years and now we'll have to make the first step to show that we are able to do it. I believe this is the way to return to the international screen," wrote Letcheva.
Bulgaria last hosted the European Championships in Varna in 1985.
In early May, officials of the European Shooting Confederation visited Bulgaria to familiarize themselves with the accommodation, Arena Burgas and held meetings with Sports Minister Georgi Glouchkov and Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov.
