Vice President Iliana Iotova met with Kimia Alizadeh, the Iranian who won European taekwondo title for Bulgaria, the President's Press Secretariat reported here on Tuesday. This is Bulgaria's first gold medal in this sport. A month earlier, the Vice President granted Bulgarian citizenship to the Iranian and thus she got the opportunity to compete for Bulgaria at the Olympic Games in Paris. Until now, Bulgaria has not had a representative in taekwondo at the world's biggest sports forum.
Alizadeh, her personal coach Davoud Etminani, the coach of the Bulgarian national team Farzad Zolghadri and Bulgarian Taekwondo Federation President Slavi Binev thanked the vice-president for his support. "Bulgaria is my second home, I am proud to compete for it. 2024 is my year, the gold at the Olympics is not my dream, but my goal, every morning I wake up thinking about the gold," said Alizadeh, who has great chances for an Olympic title. She has been committed to taekwondo since she was 7 years old. In 2019, she left Iran and went to Germany.
