site.btaAmid Leadership Crisis, Bulgarian Football Union Schedules Congress for March 14, 2024

The Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) will hold a congress to elect leadership on March 15, 2024. The decision was made at a meeting of the Union's top leadership Wednesday.

The announcement comes ten days after BFU President Borislav Mihaylov resigned under pressure from fans, opponents and the wider public, who hold the Union and Mihaylov personally responsible of the dire condition of Bulgarian football.

The BFU leadership did not hold a news briefing to communicate its decision. Details about the congress are expected later.

Nobody has announced their bid for the presidency officially but Bulgarian football legend Dimitar Berbatov is widely expected to run as he has been aspiring for the post for years, so far unsuccessfully.
