Bulgaria will field five entrants in three events at the BWF World Championships, the premier international tournament in badminton, which will be held in Copenhagen between August 21 and 27.

The team will include three-time European champions Stefani Stoeva/Gabriela Stoeva (women's doubles), Hristomira Popovska/Iliyan Stoynov (mixed doubles) and Ivan Rusev/Iliyan Stoynov (men's doubles).

National team head coach Petya Nedelcheva-Hranova told a news conference on Wednesday that a sixth Bulgarian, Daniel Nikolov, qualified for the men's singles but later withdrew on account of a knee injury. "We are waiting to see whether he recovers or gives up," the coach said.

"Lots will be drawn on August 10, and then we will be able to comment in greater detail. It will not be easy; competition is fierce at world championships," Nedelcheva-Hranova added.
