Ivet Goranova
Qualifies for Olympic Final in
Women's Kumite

Tokyo, August 5 (BTA special correspondent Dimiter Velyov) - Bulgarian karateka Ivet Goranova qualified for the final in women's kumite 55 kg event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Goranova, the gold medalist of the 2019 European Games in Minsk, Belarus, won 4:3 against Bettina Plank (Austria).

The 21-year-old Bulgarian had a good start, scoring two points in the first minute, followed by a third one 33 seconds before the end. The 29-year-old Austrian, who is a former two-time European champion in the 50 kg weight class, evened the score, but Goranova stole the victory only 8.8 seconds before the end.

Thus, the Bulgarian is guaranteed at least a silver medal, which would be the fourth medal for Bulgaria at these Olympic Games. The other three Bulgarian medalists so far are Antoaneta Kostadinova with a silver medal in 10 m pistol, Taybe Yusein with bronze in women's 62 kg wrestling, and Stoyka Krasteva who qualified for the women's 51 kg boxing final.
