The wholesale prices of basic food products, fruit and vegetables varied over the past week, according to data from the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets released on Sunday. The Wholesale Food Price Index, which tracks wholesale food price movements in Bulgaria, decreased by 0.13% to 2.267 points, compared to 2.270 points in the previous week.
The base level of the index (1.000 points) was set in 2005.
Among vegetables, red and green peppers appreciated the most, by 4.22% to BGN 2.15 and by 3.56% to BGN 1.82/kg, respectively. The wholesale price of cabbage increased as well, by 3.16% to BGN 0.98/kg, of carrots by 2.82% to BGN 1.22/kg, and of cucumbers by 2.80% to BGN 2.15/kg. The sharpest decline was recorded for potatoes, by 8.96% to BGN 0.92/kg. Tomatoes depreciated by 1.70% to BGN 2.55/kg, zucchini by 7.03% to BGN 1.25/kg, and onions by 1.17% to BGN 1.01/kg.
Among fruit, the steepest drop in wholesale prices was observed in watermelons, by 16.34% to BGN 0.54/kg. Lemons depreciated by 9.55% to BGN 3.90/kg and apples, by 5.90% to BGN 2.52/kg. Grapes appreciated by 3.19% to BGN 2.99/kg and bananas, by 1.45% to BGN 2.80/kg.
Among dairy products, wholesale prices went up for white brined cheese from cow's milk, by 1.45% to BGN 12.16/kg, yellow cheese (Vitosha type) by 1.27% to BGN 18.10/kg, and yogurt (3% and above fat) by 2.47% to BGN 1.39 per 400-gram cup. Fresh milk depreciated by 0.44% to BGN 2.28 per litre and butter (125 g), by 0.81% to BGN 3.11 per pack.
The wholesale price of frozen poultry rose by 0.87% to BGN 7.02/kg and of eggs (size M), by 1.88% to BGN 0.38 a piece.
An increase was observed in the price of while flour (type 500), by 1.97% to BGN 1.53/kg, and of dry beans, by 0.31% to BGN 4.26/kg. The wholesale price of rice went down by 0.73% to BGN 3.25/kg, of lentils by 1.51% to BGN 4.23/kg, and of sugar by 0.99% to BGN 1.80/kg.
