Starting July 1, the basic wages at the VMZ Sopot ordnance plant are up by 8%, the Ministry of Economy and Industry said in a press release. The decision was taken at the end of May at a meeting of the company's Board of Directors after negotiations with the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria and the Podkrepa Confederation of Labour.

"We are actively working to ensure that VMZ continues to modernise and develop by expanding and upgrading its existing production facilities, as well as providing sustainable jobs and higher wages," said Minister of Economy and Industry Peter Dilov. He noted that VMZ is a structurally defining enterprise for the military-industrial complex and plays a key role for both national security and the country's economy. VMZ Executive Director Ivan Getsov said that the company is also making efforts to improve working conditions through a large-scale investment programme. He added that the production units at the Iganovo site are under reconstruction and modernization.

At VMZ, two new workshops are to be commissioned at the Sopot site. They are for the production of artillery ammunition and have high-performance and modern equipment, which will increase the capacity of in-house production of mechanical parts for the final products, the press release said.
