Bulgaria’s Economy and Industry Minister, Peter Dilov, has conferred with Czech Ambassador Miroslav Toman, Dilov’s Ministry said on Monday. The sides reaffirmed the strong trade and economic ties between the two countries.

Dilov and Toman spoke about promoting partnership between companies from the two countries in key sectors, including high-tech, mechanical engineering, transport, and energy - areas with potential for strengthening bilateral economic relations.

"The Czech Republic is one of our leading economic partners in Central Europe. While bilateral trade is at a high level, there is still room for growth," Minister Dilov said. According to statistics, trade between Bulgaria and the Czech Republic reached EUR 1.888 billion in 2024.

"I believe we can deepen our partnership by focusing our efforts on new, promising sectors and forms of cooperation," Dilov added. In his words, attracting more Czech investment is a key priority for Bulgaria. "More than 400 Czech companies operate in Bulgaria, creating thousands of jobs and contributing to the technological advancement of Bulgarian industry," he noted.

Ambassador Toman said that there are many good examples of Czech companies investing in Bulgaria across various industries, including telecommunications, automotive, finance, healthcare, IT, logistics, and industrial production.

Dilov and Toman also discussed the possibility of convening a meeting of the bilateral Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation, which could outline new opportunities for trade and investment.

Toman said that the Bulgarian-Czech Chamber of Commerce, established at the end of last year, now has over 40 member companies, fostering stronger bilateral business relations and a more favorable environment for economic development.

The sides agreed that Bulgaria’s full accession to the Schengen area provides even greater prospects for cooperation and joint projects between the two countries.
