In February 2025, the number of trips of Bulgarian citizens abroad was 538,200, or 7.8% above the registered in February 2024. An increase in the trips with all observed purposes was registered, the National Statistical Institute announced on Friday.

Most trips of Bulgarian residents were made to: Türkiye – 125,200, Greece – 111,800, Romania – 63,300, Serbia – 44,700, Germany – 30,800, Republic of North Macedonia – 25,500, Austria – 22,000, Italy – 19,400, France – 14,200, Spain – 10,800. The preferred destinations in the same period last year were analogous.

The trips with other purposes formed the greatest share of the total number of trips of Bulgarian residents abroad - 46.2%, followed by those with holiday and recreation purposes - 29.6%, and with professional purposes - 24.2%.

In February 2025, the number of visits of foreign nationals to Bulgaria was 720,600, or 3.1% more in comparison with the same month of the previous year. An increase in the trips with all observed purposes was registered. Transit trips through the country were 29.6% (or 213,300) of all visits of foreign nationals to Bulgaria. In February 2024 the visits of foreign nationals to Bulgaria were 698,900 or 15.6% more than the previous month of 2024. An increase in the trips with all observed purposes was also registered and the transit trips were 31.5%.

The share of visits of EU citizens was 53.6% of the total number of foreign nationals’ visits to Bulgaria and reached 386,100, the largest being by visitors from Romania - 44.3%, and Greece - 25.6%. In February 2024, the share of citizens from the European Union who visited Bulgaria was 46.2% and reached 322,700. The largest number of visits was again from citizens from Romania and Greece.

The visits of foreign nationals in the group ‘Other European countries’ were 283,600, or 39.4% of all visits to Bulgaria. The highest registered number of visits was from Türkiye – 156,500, or 55.2% in this group. In the same month of 2024, visits by citizens from this group were 312,500 or 44.7% of all visits, and the largest number of visits were also registered from Turkiye - 145,000 or 46.4% of visits in this group.

Most visits to Bulgaria were from: Romania – 171,200, Türkiye – 156,500, Greece – 98,800, Serbia – 42,700, the United Kingdom – 32,900, Republic of North Macedonia – 29,000, Germany – 22,200, Italy – 17,100, Ukraine – 16,900, Israel – 16,200.
