At a briefing here on Saturday, Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova said that large retail chains' turnover dropped by 28.8% on February 13 compared to a day earlier as a result of Thursday's boycott of supermarkets by consumers over the high food prices. According to data from the chains' fiscal devices, the turnover on February 12 was BGN 27.3 million, while on the boycott day it decreased to BGN 19.4 million.

Petkova gave a briefing after she took part in an emergency government meeting called by the Prime Minister to discuss food prices, with a focus on the protection of Bulgarian consumers' rights and possible measures to calm the market

The boycott on February 13 was an initiative of several civil organizations. On February 14,  organisations called for a new boycott of supermarkets and large food chains to take place on February 20 across the country.
