An engineering contract for new nuclear capacities at Site No. 2 of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant will be signed at the Council of Ministers offices in Sofia on Monday, November 4, the government press service said.
The signing will be attended by Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov, Environment and Water Minister Petar Dimitrov, United States Ambassador to Bulgaria Kenneth Merten and Deputy Head of Mission at the South Korean Embassy Cho Ji I.
The contract between NPP Kozloduy New Builds Plc and Westinghouse HDEC DZZD will be signed by Petyo Ivanov, Executive Director of NPP Kozloduy New Builds, Elias Gedeon of the Westinghouse Electric Company, and Yoon Young-Joon, President and CEO of Hyundai Engineering & Construction.
The signing of the contract marks a pivotal stage of the project for building a new nuclear capacity in Bulgaria. The collaboration between Westinghouse and Huyndai in providing an integrated service in Bulgaria will ensure that the project is implemented on schedule within the set budget, the government said.
The press release recalled that Hyundai Engineering & Construction was selected by the Bulgarian National Assembly to negotiate for engineering, construction, supplies and launch of Reactor Units 7 and 8 at the Kozloduy NPP using AP1000 technology of Westinghouse.
Energy Minister Malinov said a few days ago that, in addition to stipulating engineering services, the contract will also envisage creating a conceptual design, after which it will be possible to apply with the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works for a construction permit for Kozloduy’s Unit 7.
