The Tourism Ministry quoted deputy minister Pavlin Petrov, who took part in the Friday Brand Bulgaria – Wonders of UNESCO forum, referencing National Statistical Institute (NSI) data, according to which the number of visits of foreign tourists to museums in Bulgaria in 2023 was 988,000 - an increase of 56.4% against the year 2022.

Petrov also stressed that cultural tourism occupies a significant share in Bulgaria's product portfolio as a tourist destination and is developing considerably. The Ministry of Tourism has developed eight cultural and historical destinations that are used to promote Bulgaria both on the domestic and international tourism market. The destinations unite more than 150 sites in more than 70 locations, including sites of religious and pilgrimage tourism.

"Cultural tourism, as a part of the specialized types of tourism, has a special focus in the activities of the Annual National Tourism Promotion Programme," Petrov further said during the conference.
