Everything is ready for the start of the winter season in the Pamporovo ski resort in the Rhodopi Moutains, Senior Commissioner Tsvetan Tsankov, head of the Smolyan Regional Directorate of the Interior, told the parliamentary Tourism Committee which met in the Borovets resort on Tuesday.
Tsankov said two Romanian police officers will be posted to the Pamporovo resort this year, compared to one last winter. In addition, there will be ski police patrols.
The summer season in Pamporovo lasts until the end of September. Representatives of the Pamporovo AD company said the season has been very successful, with many tourists seeking cooler temperatures in the mountain in July and August, said Alexandra Tsankova, head of the health tourism team. Nearly 90% of summer visitors were Bulgarians. Foreign tourists arrived from Britain, Israel, Greece, Turkiye and the United Arab Emirates. This is the first time UAE groups have visited Pamporovo.
Tourists again showed a strong interest in programmes which became relevant around the pandemic, including recovery, anti-stress and relaxation, respiratory treatments and specialized health services, said Tsankova.
