Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov on Saturday thanked the country's national men's volleyball team for reaching the World Championship final in the Philippines earlier in the day.

This is Bulgaria’s second-ever World Championship final, following the appearance in the 1970 World Championship final, when they hosted the tournament and claimed silver against East Germany.

Returning from the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Prime Minister said in Sofia: “A huge thank you to our national team – they have earned the right to be called champions, because for me, they already are.”

“I thank them for the joy they’ve brought us, and for the emotions they continue to create. I want to thank them for their professionalism, their teamwork, their skill, and their youth,” the Prime Minister added. “With young people like this, Bulgaria has a future. All that’s left for us to do is to support them, and to thank them for uniting us once again as Bulgarians in this moment.”
