World-renowned soprano Anna Netrebko will perform at an opera gala for the first time in Bulgaria on Thursday. The event will be held at Arena 8888 Sofia. The opera gala will be conducted by Nayden Todorov with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, the organizers said.

American music critic Anthony Tomasini called Netrebko in the New York Times a soprano with star power in the best sense of the word, a charismatic expressiveness that permeates every element of her performance.

Anna Netrebko began her career in 1994, reaching the most prestigious opera stages. She is the star of Milan’s La Scala, the Vienna State Opera,  the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera in London, the Berlin State Opera, and participated in the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, etc.

Her repertoire includes operas by Mozart, Verdi, Bellini, Donizetti, Massenet, Gounod, Puccini, Tchaikovsky, Chilea.

This summer she will appear in eight performances at La Scala with Turandot/Puccini, starting on June 25, and three performances in August at the Arena di Verona with Tosca/Puccini.

Netrebko has three nominations for the Grammy Award, the German Bambi Award, the Brit Classical Music Awards' Singer of the Year, the 2020 Polar Music Award, which is often called the "Nobel Prize in Music", and the jury's assessment is that "being a virtuoso vocalist is not enough. Opera, as an art form, attracts an audience, and no one in the modern era does this better than opera diva Anna Netrebko. With her magnificent voice and charisma, she is more than a singer".

In 2007, Netrebko was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Times. She is a global ambassador for the Chopard brand.

Along with Anna Netrebko, Yusif Eyvazov will also take the stage. Eyvazov  is a dramatic tenor with a flourishing international career. His unique voice, described as "“metallic, stentorian and markedly Italianate" (L.A. Times), and his exceptional stage presence allow him to combine his active opera career with frequent concert appearances, the organizers commented.
