site.btaCivic Initiative Presents 7,000-Plus-Signature Petition Demanding Parliament Chair's Resignation

Simeon Slavchev of the Buditeli civic initiative told a press conference here on Thursday that in the last month, 7,350 citizens have signed an online petition calling for the resignation of Nataliya Kiselova as Parliament Chair, for the resignation of the government, and for a national referendum on whether Bulgaria should join the euro area.
The arguments for Kiselova's resignation are that she has repeatedly violated the Constitution and the National Assembly rules. According to Slavchev, she does not have the moral right to keep her position.
The petition continues despite the fact that it has passed the 7,000-vote barrier, which was needed in the last elections to elect an MP, Slavchev said. He stated that the moral crisis that the country is suffering can be avoided, if the 51st National Assembly gets dissolved.
Buditeli addressed a letter to the opposition parties in parliament, asking them to submit a report that would dismiss Kiselova as National Assembly Chair. The civic initiative requested a vote of no confidence in the government due to lapses of national security.
