site.btaViolinist Liya Petrova to Perform at Charity Concert in Sofia on Guarneri Violin

Violinist Liya Petrova will perform for the first time on Sofia stage on the Guarneri del Gesu violin at a charity concert in support of children and young people deprived of parental care, Petrova announced. The event is on February 12 (Wednesday) at the Sofia City Art Gallery, which is co-organizing it with the Star of Hope Foundation.

The concert also features Lyudmil Angelov, Filip Angelov, Kalina Andreeva, Ivaylo Vassilev, Dimitar Gorchakov, Simeon Goshev, Atanas Krastev, Bogomila Krasteva, Sibila Petrova, Borislava Taneva, Kristina Hinova, Stefania Yankova. 

"I am very excited that after 50 years in the hands of Stoyka Milanova, I will have the opportunity to play on this incredible instrument for the first time in front of the Sofia audience", said Liya Petrova. 

She and Svetlin Roussev received the Guarneri del Gesu (1733) and Stradivarius (1716) violins respectively at an official ceremony on October 29 2024 by caretaker Minister of Culture Naiden Todorov. The instruments are the property of the Bulgarian state and were previously played by Prof. Stoyka Milanova and Prof. Mincho Minchev. Petrova and Roussev earned the right to play them for the next five years.
