site.btaPernik, Silistra Groups Win Grand Prize at 31st Surva International Festival of Masquerade Games
At the 31st Surva International Festival of Masquerade Games, which closed on Sunday in Pernik, three groups were awarded a Golden Mask Grand Prix.
The winners come from the Yardzhilovtsi and Vitanovtsi villages near Pernik and from the village of Aydemir near Silistra.
The Silver Masks Award went to the entrants from the villages of Sopitsa in Breznik Municipality, Kopanitsa in Radomir Municipality, and Granitovo in Yambol Region. The group from the village of Koshov in Ruse Region received the Bronze Masks Award.
The Audience Award went to the Dzhamal Puppet Group from the village of Dolni Bogrov in Sofia Region. The entrants from the villages of Divotino in Pernik Region and Bozveliysko in Varna Region shared the Federation of European Carnival Cities Cup.
Surva has been held since 1966. In 2015, the Surova folk feast from the Pernik region was added to UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The event celebrates and revives old rituals and elements of the folklore tradition of Bulgaria.
