"We are striving to ensure a visit to Heraclea Sintica for part of the delegates of the 47th session of UNESCO in July 2025," Prof Ludmil Wagalinski, head of the excavations in the ancient city, told BTA on Monday.
He added that there are plans to create copies of some of the statues, which will be exhibited in Heraclea Sintica. "The owner of all the finds from Heraclea and the site itself is the Petrich Municipality and the Petrich History Museum. We've been cooperating well with them since 2015", Wagalinski said.
He also noted that there are possibilities for holding musical and theatrical performances in the basilica of the ancient city, adding that the historical thriller Mysteries in Heraclea Sintica from 2024 is a suitable plot for both the creation of a feature film and stage performances.
"In November, we successfully presented Heraclea both in the hall and on site to the tourist operators in Bulgaria. We will continue to train young people from Europe in Heraclea with the help of the Open Space Foundation. They are excellent ambassadors for the site around the world," Wagalinski said.
He expressed hope that Petrich Municipality will prepare a second project for the permanent socialization of Heraclea Sintica, so that the tourist infrastructure does not lag behind what was discovered by the team of archaeologists.
Wagalinski was adamant that the ancient city will reveal a wealth of historical information that will spark the imagination and that it will appeal to all who are interested in history to visit Heraclea Sintica in order to see an unadulterated ancient city.
