Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev attended celebrations of the 177th birth anniversary of poet and revolutionary Hristo Botev, which took place in the Borisova Gradina park in the capital on Monday. "We are here to honor his work, to bow our heads to his feat and sacrifice, and to stand stronger and wiser," Terziev said.
"Only when a nation and humanity develop freely, only then the individual will find his freedom, this is what Botev teaches us", he noted, adding: "The Bulgarian nation is not in the grave of its past, but in the cradle of its future." The Mayor pointed out that he recalled this saying for everyone who makes daily choices in the name of the good, choices between freedom and the voluntary renunciation of it.
Botev is an example of what patriotism and sacrifice mean, Terziev said. "We need to build a healthy state and a good society, which from generation to generation will take care of having a good future as a nation and people," he added.
The anniversary of the birth of Hristo Botev (1848-1876) was marked with various events in many places in the country.
