Establishing a two-year residency programme for ceramicists and artists is envisaged in a draft agreement between the Bulgarian town of Troyan and the city of Jingdezhen in the east of China, Troyan Mayor Donka Mihaylova said at a press briefing.

The programme will take place at Taoxichuan Art Center Creative Studio in partnership with the National Arts and Crafts Fair in Oreshak. The invitation for the new agreement comes shortly after a Troyan delegation participated in the International Ceramics Festival in Jingdezhen, Mihaylova pointed out.

The goal of the proposed project is to promote the exchange of cultural and artistic traditions between Troyan and Jingdezhen. The agreement covers the 2025-2026 period.

The parties' commitments include the guaranteed participation of at least three Bulgarian artists per year in the Chinese Taoxichuan Art Center. The Chinese side will cover travel expenses, a scholarship and accommodation in an artistic centre.

The National Arts and Crafts Fair will in turn promote the project. Selected participants will create their works at the Taoxichuan Art Center, donating three works to the programme.

The initiative will allow for building on established contacts and creating unique opportunities for creative collaboration and cultural exchange for residents and artists from both countries, said the Mayor.
