A training programme for young journalists from national and regional media in Bulgaria was launched here on Monday. This is the third programme of its kind organized by the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) in partnership with the European Parliament.

The three-day programme is titled "Do You Know about the EU Institutions?".

In her address to the trainees, BTA Deputy Director General Evgenia Drumeva said: "In this program, I believe you will learn a lot of interesting things that will offer a new perspective on the workings of the European Parliament and other European institutions. The impact of what happens in the European Parliament is significant for all our lives, in addition to the legislation passed in the Bulgarian Parliament."

Teodor Stoychev, head of the European Parliament Liaison Office in Bulgaria, said that this training is essential for shifting from a purely national focus to a European perspective. "The European Union has long ceased to be viewed as foreign policy or international news. It is now a part of everyday life in Bulgaria," he said, adding that as active EU members, "we strive to make the most of the opportunities that come with membership".

The opening was followed by a lecture on European institutions led by Prof. Ingrid Shikova, lecturer at the St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia.

Over the course of the training, the participants will be able to learn about the functioning of EU institutions, the core values of the EU, European elections and the disinformation campaigns surrounding them, and the role of the media.

The lectures will be led by leading experts in European affairs, experienced journalists, and MEPs.

The EP Training Programme for Young European Journalists is organized in more than 20 EU Member States.
