One gold, two silver medals, and three honorary diplomas went to the Bulgarian team at the International English Language Olympiad (IELO), which took place in Constanta, Romania, the press centre of the Ministry of Education and Science reported on Monday.

Trayan Beshkov from the “Exarch Joseph I” Language School in Lovech won a gold medal in the individual competition at B1 level. Nadezhda Dyulgerova from “Peyo K. Yavorov” Language School in Petrich won the silver medal in the individual B2 competition. At the same level, Alexandra Atanasova from the “Asen Zlatarov” Language School in Haskovo was awarded an honorary diploma.

Two-hundred participants in 35 teams from 15 countries competed in the two compulsory categories: individual and team in levels B1, B2 and C1. The individual competition included a written test, integrated skills (understanding audio-video material and essay writing) and speaking. The team project consists of creating a digital/multimedia/dramatized representation of a scene that the team considers particularly important to the action of a novel, as listed in the bibliography for the appropriate level - B1, B2 and C1.

This is the second edition of the International English Olympiad. In 2023, Bulgaria won one gold medal for a team project at level B2, two honourable mentions at the same level in the individual competition, and a bronze medal in the individual competition at level B1, the release said.
