The naval research ship Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421) allowed Bulgarian researchers to reach new destinations and further depths in Atractica, the ship's commanding officer, Nikolay Danailov, said Thursday. He spoke on the occasion of the presentation of a new edition of BTA's LIK magazine dedicated to scientific research in Antarctica. Together with Lieutenant Commander Radko Muevski, he participated in the presentation via video link from board the RSV 421.

Danailov commented that the participation of RSV 321 in the Bulgarian Antarctic expedition was not only the logistical support, but also with tasks related to the implementation of scientific projects. He stressed that with the help of the crew the Bulgarian scientists collected samples, did research in the area of the base on Livingston Island. The ship enabled them to reach new destinations and collect specimens from greater depths, Danailov said. He expressed satisfaction that, among other things, the ship was something of an ambassador for Bulgaria and was well received in all the ports they visited during the expeditions.

Lieutenant Commander Radko Muevski added that RSV 421 is currently undergoing repairs. It will then make short voyages during which both the crew and cadets from the Varna Naval Academy will gain experience. The preparations for the 33rd Bulgarian expedition to Antarctica will then begin, Muevski added.
