Caretaker Minister of Education and Science Galin Tsokov welcomed at the Ministry Croatian students in Bulgarian language and culture at the University of Zagreb, the Education and Science Ministry said in a press release Thursday. They are in Bulgaria for lectures at the St Kliment Ohridski Univesity of Sofia and the Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv (South Central Bulgaria) as well as visits to museums, galleries, and monuments in the two cities.
"I am happy you are among us. We hope that in the coming years, you will further progress in your study of the Bulgarian language and will be able to work in your field. Our languages are close, which creates yet another bridge between Bulgaria and Croatia. All of you will be such a bridge of friendship, cooperation and new opportunities for development of the ties between our countries in culture, education, and industry," Tsokov told the students.
Some 40 Croatian students are enrolled in the Bulgarian studies programme at the University of Zagreb, said Dr Evelina Grozdanova, lecturer in Bulgarian language and culture who leads the group of students during their stay in Bulgaria. She also said they are successful in finding work in their field. Many companies in Croatia wish to employ Bulgarian language speakers. "Thanks to the Ministry of Education and Science, we receive scholarships for the summer language seminars in Veliko Tarnovo and Sofia," she explained. In her words, these seminars are extremely useful for the students. The textbooks in Bulgarian studies at the University of Zagreb have been donated by the Education Ministry of Bulgaria, she specified.
