Feature films and documentaries, in which Roma are authors or active participants, will be screened at the Odeon Cinema in Sofia. The screenings will take place on April 11-15 and will be part of an international selection of cinematic narratives against stereotypes, the organizers said here on Thursday.
The event is organized by Goethe Institute - Bulgaria, Arte Urbana Collectif and Odeon Cinema.
The programme will include short, feature and documentary films, as well as a series of post-screening discussions. The selection will be curated by Radmila Mladenova, who is a postdoctoral researcher at the Research Centre on Antigypsyism in Heidelberg.
"More than half of the titles we will present are directed by Roma, other minorities or by women. The films selected are driven by a gaze that is sensitive to social inequalities and the abuse of power. It is these kinds of issues and life struggles that we will introduce you to in our film series, which also includes discussions," the organizers said.
Teodora Krumova and Deyan Kolev from Amalipe Center, directors Lyudmila Zhivkova and Andrey Hristozov, Raina Dimitrova and Zornitsa Stoichkova from Health and Social Development Foundation HESED and Ognyan Isaev from Trust for Social Achievement will take part in the discussions.
