At the 22nd Youth Economic Forum 2025, held at the University of National and World Economy (UNWE) in Sofia on Monday, Education and Science Minister Krasimir Valchev said that artificial intelligence will change professions and education systems. The forum, organized by the UNWE Student Council, this year is under the theme Prospects and Challenges for Young People and Higher Education Institutions in the Era of Artificial Intelligence.

"AI is what will most significantly change socioeconomic relations, professions, and education systems," Valchev said. He added that AI will accelerate the transformation of professions and education systems, and therefore higher education institutions must develop both skills for working with AI and in-depth knowledge about it.

Valchev announced that the Ministry of Education is working on adding topics related to the use of artificial intelligence to the curricula and plans to introduce a permanent format for their updating.

"We run the risk of losing more skills than we gain or develop new ones. And this is the big challenge - to find the formula," he added. Responding to a question from the media, he said that the changes are expected to take effect next year.

The Minister emphasized the need for Bulgaria to invest in mathematics and science education.

He highlighted the need to build ecosystems of start-ups, scientific units, and institutions, recalling the Council of Ministers' decision to establish an Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Economics at the University of National and World Economy.
